The 2nd AREFLH ANNUAL FORUM was held in Brussels and online on 4 November 2025. It brought together the stakeholders of the European fruit and vegetable sector and the EU institutions to discuss the current issues affecting the sector.
Conceived as a place for dialogue and discussion between representatives of the regions, professionals and European institutions, this yearly event enable participants to take part in debates on European policies and current regulatory reforms and revisions.
Programme overview:
Session 1: The role of regions and F&V sectoral interventions in the next CAP
The next CAP (2028-2034) is taking shape against a backdrop of budget cuts and profound structural reforms: the end of protected rural development and new co-financing rules that risk undermining the integrity of the single market. These changes are likely to reduce the role of the regions and weaken the sectors, particularly for fruit and vegetables.
Faced with these challenges, it is crucial to reflect collectively on the role of the regions and the fruit and vegetable sector in order to influence the future CAP and maintain a high level of economic, social and environmental ambition.

Session 2: Innovation for sustainable plant protection
In a context of continuing reductions in the number of authorised active substances and increasing pressure from climate change, innovation is becoming essential to guarantee sustainable crop protection.
New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) and the development of biopesticides - supported by a recent report from the European Parliament calling for accelerated registrations and mutual recognition - are paving the way for new solutions.
This session explored how these tools can be incorporated into integrated pest management (IPM).
