SmartProtect : detecting Candidatus Phytoplasma
The SmartProtect project includes in its innovations a tool detecting Candidatus Phytoplasma
AREFLH is a partner of the SmartProtect* EU project : SMART agriculture for innovative vegetable crop PROTECTion: harnessing advanced methodologies and technologies
Among the innovative technologies included in the SmartProtect* Platform, AREFLH presents the LAMP Dried-Premix Phytoplasma Universal Detection Kit. The kit detects Candidatus Phytoplasma species universally.
Phytoplasmas are plant pathogenic bacteria associated with devastating damage to over 700 plant species worldwide. Infection of Phytoplasmas is judged by the amplification of DNA using the LAMP method (Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification). This kit is effective for the highly sensitive diagnosis of Phytoplasma disease and allows the whole reaction process to proceed at a constant temperature, so a thermal cycling machine is not needed.
Four steps are needed for the detection:
- sample preparation
- reaction mix preparation
- amplification reaction
- judgement
A UV light is not needed to detect if the results are negative or positive.
