CONSOLE Final Conference
The Final Conference of Console took place on 13th of October, in a hybrid format.
The final project meeting of the CONSOLE "CONtract SOLutions for Effective and lasting delivery of agri-environmental-climate public goods by EU agriculture and forestry”, was held on October 13th and 14th in a hybrid format.
The meeting aimed to present a general overview of the final results of the activities carried out during the forty-two months of the project :
- the development of a user-led contractual framework and
- the results of the case studies that have been conducted in Europe and beyond Europe.
In addition, the lessons learned about the contracts that were parts of the project were also presented. Here are some of them:
- There is no standard recipes
- Clear incentives are important
- Beware of trade-offs
- Learning the process is essential
- The legal context (local to international) must be taken into account
- The technological aspects (e.g. for monitoring) are important
- There are opportunities from implementation of the new CAP
The difficulty with Console contract solutions is that there is not a standard recipe for this kind of instrument (means contracts).
The other difficulty is that in some cases they work very well on local bases, but they are so specifically connected to this local situation that it can be hard to bring those examples to another location or to another sector. Their applicability is tricky because the contracts might not be efficient when transferred to other locations.
An active follow-up and the creation of the CONSOLE hub that will collect the materials from the framework and the case studies for the future development beyond the project: www.console-hub.eu
The CONSOLE project aims to promote innovation in the sustainable delivery of agri-environmental-climate public goods in EU agriculture and forestry. The CONSOLE framework will allow for better design and facilitate the implementation of innovative contractual solutions for the supply of AECPG under various conditions across the EU.
