Defending a strong, dedicated CAP budget
February 2025. Co-signed joint letter to EU Commission President.
Ahead of the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) review, AREFLH, alongside COPA COGECA and 27 other EU agri-food chain organisations, has co-signed a joint letter to President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner Piotr Serafin.
- We firmly oppose the proposal to consolidate EU expenditure into a Single Fund, which would have severe consequences for agriculture:
- Undermining targeted support: the CAP plays a fundamental role in addressing specific agricultural and rural challenges. Pooling funds would dilute its impact. Also, the Strategic Dialogue for the Future of EU Agriculture clearly calls for a dedicated CAP budget to ensure stability and growth in the sector.
- Compromising long-term investments: farmers and producer organizations rely on a predictable, multiannual financial framework to improve competitiveness and sustainability.
- Creating an unmanageable administrative burden: the experience with CAP National Strategic Plans has shown how complex and time-consuming such processes are. A shift to National Single Plans would only exacerbate these difficulties, causing unnecessary delays.
AREFLH stands by European producers and regions in defending a strong CAP budget, adjusted for inflation, to ensure the sustainability of EU agriculture and rural development.
