This is the European Commission’s annual flagship Research and Innovation event, bringing together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and the public to debate. It took place online on 28 and 29 September 2022.

First day, 28 September 2022:

Definition of the strategic plan of innovation priorities for the period 2025 -2027.

The Strategic plan exercise is related to the methodology to promote the cross cutting dialogue with the research community, with stakeholders and citizens. This is the second experience, more open and participative. It is an inclusive way to define the R&I priorities, and specially it can have an impact on all of us.

New priorities:

  • Promotion and open strategic autonomy
  • Restoring Europe eco-system & biodiversity
  • Busting a digital circular, climate-neutral and sustainable economy
  • Creating more resilient and inclusive democratic European society

The strategic plan will be developed as an inclusive and interactive process between the Commission services, Members States, EU Parliament, stockholders and citizens.

Two strategies are fundamental : the green transition and the digital area. The innovation and research process funded by Horizon Europe will bring solutions, new scientific knowledge. These two strategies will help with the transformation towards sustainability.

Public Online Consultation

Everyone will be able to share their views on the new strategic plan. A public consultation will begin in November 2022 and will be open for 3 months. This will be a crucial moment to share the challenges that you would like to see as top priorities in the agenda and to share how to tackle the solutions. This will also help the EC find cross-cluster complementarities and see how, together, we can orient the strategic plan. AREFLH will update you on the lunch of the public consultation.

Second day, 29 September 2022

The new European Innovation agenda goes along with the European research area and European education area.

The R&I needs to focus on the implementations of the 25 actions of the European innovation agenda, and  involve the Members States and work with all stakeholders.

This new agenda recognize the new types of innovations developed by start-ups and by the students community that complete the outstanding work of researchers.

The new European innovation agenda sends a clear message to the rest of the world. The European Union is ready) for the next way of innovation : deep tech and start-ups.

The new R&I agenda supports the regional ecosystems. It better interconnects them to create a true pan-European innovation system. This is crucial to achieve the goal of leading the global innovation race and to assure the Europe screen and digital transitions.
