PRICE FALL OF THE OLIVE OIL :CIOLOS PROPOSES ASSISTANCE WITH STORAGE

The European Commissioner for agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, announced that '' its services will propose tomorrow, to the European Committee of management of the agricultural markets, the opening of an auction relative to help with the private storage for 100,000 tons of olive oil extra-virgin and virgin”.
The Commissioner announced it at the time of his visit in Madrid. The proposal which '' will be opened in all the States producing members, and for storage period 150 days”, is the consequence of the price-cutting of the olive oil, in Central Europe, under standard prices. This leads to the opening of this assistance measure to the producers. Furthermore, these price drops adds up to the fall of the production of olive oil.
In Italy, in particular, Ismea in collaboration with the CNO and Unaprol, adjusted the forecasts of production downwards, with an average loss of 6% compared to 2010.
It is especially central Italy which suffer from such a trend, with great falls of volumes: Tuscany and Latium-40%, Steps -39%, the Abruzzi -35% and Ombries -30%.
